"The Trial of the Chicago 7" may have won the top prize at the 2021 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday, but it wasn't the film with the most wins.
That honor belonged to "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," which snagged trophies for both its lead actress, Viola Davis, and its lead actor, the late Chadwick Boseman. His widow, Simone, accepted his posthumuos win and gave another powerful speech.
This year marked the first time in SAG Awards history that all four acting categories were won by actors of color, with Daniel Kaluuya from "Judas and the Black Messiah" and Youn Yuh-Jung from "Minari" also winning for supporting roles.
On the TV side, "The Crown" and "Schitt's Creek" were named the top drama ensemble and comedy ensemble, respectively. The lead actress categories for drama and comedy were also dominated by these two series, with stars Gillian Anderson and Catherine O'Hara cinching wins.
The 27th annual SAG Awards was presented with no red carpet, no host and none of the usual awards show trappings, choosing instead to air a pre-taped hourlong ceremony.
