Paris Jackson remembers dad Michael Jackson on what would have been his 65th birthday
Jackson also sent an important message to "super fans" of her late father.
Paris Jackson has an important message for Michael Jackson fans on what would have been her dad's 65th birthday.
The 25-year-old singer took to her Instagram story on Tuesday to share a video of her speaking directly to camera to mark the late pop star's special day -- despite her saying it was something he wouldn't want if he was alive.
"So, today's my dad's birthday," she began. "And back when he was alive, he used to hate anybody acknowledging his birthday, wishing him a happy birthday, celebrating it -- nothing like that. He actually didn't want us to even know when his birthday was, because he didn't want us to, like, throw a party or anything like that."
Jackson, who was 11 when her father died in 2009, continued, "That being said, social media is apparently how people express their love and affection these days, and if you don't wish someone a happy birthday via social media, it apparently means that you don't love them, you don't care about them."
The "Let Down" singer explained that people "lose their f------ minds" and "tell me to kill myself" when she doesn't post about her dad's birthday.
"They're basically measuring my love for my own father based off of what I post on Instagram," she said. "So, I made you guys a little video and I hope you enjoy it."
Jackson then shared a video of her onstage at a show earlier that day, telling the crowd it was her dad's birthday and that he "put 50 years of blood, sweat, and tears and love and passion into doing what he did so that I can stand up here onstage in front of you and scream into a microphone."
"So, I owe everything to him," she added.
Switching back to her addressing the camera directly, Jackson said that if any "MJ super fan" wants to "do something that he would have loved -- which is not celebrate his birthday," they should consider getting involved with issues he cared about.
"There's always ways to get involved with raising awareness for climate change, doing stuff for the environment, animal rights activism. These were things that he loved and was very interested in," she said. "I can't speak for him, because I'm a different person and I don't know, but I'm sure he would have loved that."
