'Pose' alum Angelica Ross making Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in 'Chicago'

"Pose" alum Angelica Ross is making her Broadway debut in "Chicago."
According to the musical's official Instagram account, the 41-year-old actress takes over the role of Roxie Hart in performances beginning Sept. 12.
"The name on everybody's lips is gonna be... A N G E L I C A!" the show's announcement read, referencing lyrics from the song "Roxie."
Gwen Verdon originated the role of Roxie Hart in the original Broadway musical, which premiered in 1975 and closed in 1977. The show was later revived on Broadway, with that production celebrating its 25th anniversary last year.
A 2002 film version of "Chicago" featured Renée Zellweger as Roxie Hart. It was nominated for 13 Oscars and won six Academy Awards, including best picture, in 2003.
Anthony Allen Ramos, vice president of communications and talent for GLAAD, issued a statement about Ross joining "Chicago."
"'Chicago's' Roxie Hart is one of the most recognizable, iconic, and beloved characters in the history of Broadway, and a true talent like Angelica Ross will delight audiences with her impressive acting, singing and performance skills," he said.
"Angelica is also a respected leader in the transgender community, and joins L Morgan Lee as trans women of color currently starring on Broadway," Ramos added.
Lee is a Tony-nominated trans performer who currently stars in "A Strange Loop."
After a star-turning performance on "Pose," Ross joined the "American Horror Story" franchise, appearing in the "1984" and "Double Feature" seasons.
