Reba McEntire and Darius Rucker debut 'In the Ghetto' collaboration at 2020 CMA Awards
The night's hosts paid tribute to Mac Davis with a moving performance.
Reba McEntire and Darius Rucker debuted their new "In the Ghetto" collaboration in honor of late country great Mac Davis at the 54th Annual Country Music Association Awards on Wednesday night.
Davis, who died in September 2020 following heart surgery, famously penned the song for Elvis Presley, who released the track in 1969.
He was also responsible for writing many of Presley’s other hits, including "Memories," "A Little Less Conversation" and "Don't Cry Daddy."
McEntire and Rucker, the hosts of the 2020 CMA Awards, recorded "In the Ghetto" together in October; it will be released on all streaming services at midnight ET.
At the time of Davis’ death, McEntire was one of the many country music stars who spoke out about his impact.
"Thank you, dear Lord Jesus, for letting us know the man to whom you gave the most incredible talent," McEntire said in a statement. "He entertained and spread joy to so many people. What a wonderful legacy he left all of us with his music. Mac was one of a kind. I’m so blessed to have been one of his many friends."
