Cottage cheese may feel like an old-school food, but thanks to social media it's making modern a modern comeback.

Once banished to the back of your grandmother's fridge, people are falling in love again with cottage cheese and creating inventive new ways -- sometimes surprising -- to use the versatile ingredient.

With over 241 million views on TikTok alone, people are using cottage cheese in an array of recipes from pancakes and pasta sauce with an added protein boost to fancy toast or as the base of a protein bowl.

Justine Doiron, aka Justine Snacks on social media, racked up nearly 400K views on a video of her 30-minute cottage cheese bowl with za’atar roasted vegetables and sweet-and-spicy pepper sauce.

And with the weather heating up, content creator Lainie Kates joined "Good Morning America" to share her now-viral cottage cheese ice cream recipes.

Peanut butter cheesecake ice cream

Ingredients
1 container of whole milk cottage cheese
1/4 cup or more sweetener of your choice (I like to use raw honey or date syrup)
1 to 2 tbsp of natural peanut butter
1/2 cup chocolate chips

Directions

Using a high-powered blender, food processor or immersion blender, add cottage cheese and sweetener and blend until it's silky smooth.

Add peanut butter and chocolate chips.

Make swirls using a spoon and place them back into the container. Top with more peanut butter and chocolate chips.

Freeze for a few hours. Make sure it does not turn icy, so stir every hour or so while in the freezer and don't freeze longer than 4 to 5 hours.

Strawberry cheesecake ice cream

Ingredients

A few graham crackers

Directions

Add in more strawberries and crushed graham crackers.

Make swirls using a spoon and place them back into the container.

Freeze for a few hours. Make sure it does not turn icy, so stir every hour or so while in freezer and don't freeze longer than 4 to 5 hours.
