Halloween nail art: Get a taste of Khloe Kardashian's Candy Crush-inspired style
Celebrity nail artist Chaun Legend breaks down how to get the look.
Halloween is days away, and if you are still wondering how to get into the spirit, missed out on snagging a costume or you're looking for fun, festive ideas, why not add a little sweet treat to your nails?
Celebrity nail artist Chaun Legend is helping many of us do just that with one of his recent Candy Crush-inspired nail looks done on Khloe Kardashian.
One of the great things about this look is that it's perfect for Halloween, but can also be worn throughout the entire holiday season.
Legend admits that when he was initially approached with the opportunity to create a Candy Crush-inspired nail design to celebrate and promote the game's All Stars Tournament, he was thoroughly excited. "I love the bright colors used in the game design and the fun candy shapes, and had so much fun bringing the look to life," he told "GMA."
He continued, "When creating the Candy Crush nail design, I was inspired by the colorful chocolate bomb, the striped candies and rainbow colors found throughout the game."
Ahead, Legend breaks down his top products, tools and pro tips for achieving the look.
Products
- Bright gel nail polishes in colors such as teal, lavender, pink, orange, green, yellow, etc. (Regular nail polish also works.)
- A nail dotting tool is needed to create even, symmetrical dots for the color bomb nail.
- A striping brush is needed to create straight, thin lines for the striped candy look.
- Clear nail polish with glitter
- Clear topcoat nail polish
Get the look:
Step 1: For the thumb nail, recreate a Candy Bomb by painting the full nail brown and using the nail dotting tool to add white dots. "If you don't have one at home, you can use a toothpick or a bobby pin," said Legend.
Step 2: Using the nail dotting tool, add colors to each of the dots to replicate the Color Bomb with colors such as green, yellow, blue, red and pink. Follow with a clear topcoat for added shine.
Step 3: Paint the full ring fingernail with a bright purple or magenta color, and add diagonal white stripes using a striping brush or toothpick. Once dry, use the striping brush to add a clear polish with glitter on top of the purple polish. Then finish with a clear topcoat.
Step 4: On the middle finger and pinky finger, use bright colors like teal, lavender, pink, orange, yellow, etc. to create thick horizontal stripes for an ombre look. "The stripes don't need to be perfect, let the colors run into each other," said Legend. Let these nails dry and follow by painting over the stripes with a clear, glitter topcoat.
Step 5: Use a striping brush to create two white ovals on the middle fingernails, that look like candy pieces on top of the ombre rainbow nail. Using the striping brush, paint over the white ovals with colors such as green or orange, and add white stripes to resemble candy pieces. Using the nail dotting tool, add white dots to the whole nail and finish with a clear, glitter topcoat.
Step 6: Paint the full ring fingernail with a bright purple or magenta color. Add diagonal white stripes using a striping brush or toothpick. Once dry, use the striping brush to add a clear polish with glitter on top of the purple polish. Finish with a clear topcoat.
Step 7: Use the same technique mentioned for step 6 for your index finger, but use a different color such as blue or green instead of purple.
Legend's pro tips:
Tip 1: "When creating fun, intricate designs I like to use gel nail polish versus regular nail polish. Your manicure will last about up to four weeks and nails with gel polish keep their shiny finish -- chip free -- until the polish is removed."
Tip 2: "The best way to style the Candy Crush nail design is to pair your colorful nails with unique, fun jewelry like flower-shaped rings, chunky bangles and a bold handbag."
Tip 3: "When recreating the Candy Crush nail design at home, the best way to capture the finished look is to take a video on your phone camera, slowly moving your fingers back and forth as you pan the camera left to right, showing off your mani from all angles."
