Wanted: Outgoing Hermit to Live in Switzerland Cavern

It just might be the easiest job in the world.

A Swiss town is searching for an official hermit -- someone to live in a tiny house and indulge curious visitors to the historical hermitage.

“Are you an idealistic, religious person who delights in meeting people?” reads a job advertisement for the position, translated to English.

Solothurn wants an “open, communicative” hermit to live in the cavern at the Verena Gorge Hermitage, according to the Neue Zürcher Zeitung newspaper.

The hermitage is a centuries-old tradition in Solothurn.

The community makes it clear in the ad that its new recluse must be willing to chat with passersby and explain the area’s history -- a problem it had with past employees who had an issue with becoming “a tourist attraction,” according to the newspaper.

Job duties also include tending to the garden and giving meditation courses, The Austrian Times reported.

The town said it had been flooded with applications from all over Europe.

The hermit will be paid a small salary.
