-- Cher may seem confident on stage, but she details her insecurities in a new candid interview with AARP magazine.

The icon is 68 and millions of fans think she still looks stunning. One person who doesn't think that way is Cher herself.

“Every once in a while I think, ‘Jesus, you’re so old! How did this happen?’ I haven’t looked in the mirror in years," she told the magazine. "The only time I was happy with the way I looked was when I was, like, 40 to 45.”

Indeed, she's not even a fan of herself.

“I’m not a confident person, and I’m really not a Cher fan," she said. "But I want to make sure I’ll do a great job, so I go balls to the wall and try to do every single thing I can.”

She also commented on her penchant for dating younger men.

“Older men rarely liked me. If it wasn’t for younger men, I would never have a date," she joked.

One thing Cher has worked very hard on most recently is adjusting to her son, Chaz, who had gender-reassignment surgery.

“Have faith and hold on. It’s scary because you don’t know how you’re going to feel," she advised other parents who have children struggling with their sexual identity. “He’d forgotten to erase his old outgoing message. I thought, ‘I’m never going to hear my daughter’s voice [in person] again.’ ”
