Courteney Cox, David Arquette Celebrate Separation
Cox reveals she and Arquette are happier now than when filming "Scream 4."
April 12, 2011 — -- After a rocky couple of months, Courteney Cox and David Arquette both have something to celebrate. She's got a new movie, "Scream 4," coming out Friday, and he's more than 90 days sober.
For "Scream 4," Cox reprised her role as tabloid reporter Gale Weathers, who's married to Arquette's David Dewey. That was awkward: Cox and Arquette met each other on the set of the first "Scream" movie, but by the time filming for "Scream 4" rolled around, their 11-year-old marriage was falling apart. (They separated in October.)
"I would say we're probably better now than we were during that movie," Cox told Entertainment Weekly Monday night at "Scream 4's" Los Angeles premiere. "The movie was just a little bit of a tough time. I don't have the fondest memories of those particular moments during that film."
But, she said, "It's not hard to watch, because we've moved past that phase. Some times were really fun. ... I don't remember us ever getting into a fight. It wasn't like that."
Arquette enjoyed his own good time in Chile earlier this month, dancing onstage with the band Cypress Hill to celebrate 90 days of sobriety. He seemed to love South America. On March 31, Arquette tweeted, "Chile is remarkable, and the Explora Resorts are flawless. I hope you can make it to this incredible country sometime." Five days later, he wrote, "I absolutely loved Santiago, Chile! If you have a chance you MUST visit South America."
2011's been rough on the actor -- in March, he was in a head-on car collision in Los Angeles (no one was injured).
Arquette entered a rehab program for alcohol abuse and depression in January. That came after weeks of public confessions, including his admitting on Howard Stern's radio show that "I am definitely having a nervous breakdown."
