— -- On Wednesday's episode of "Empire," Lucious Lyon wanted to merge with a streaming service, Swift.

So in true Empire form, instead of negotiating in a boardroom, Lucious decided to meet Swift CEO Jago in a boxing ring.

The two began to discuss Lucious' music, but when Jago told him how he truly felt -- that he found his "lyrics kind of shallow" -- Lucious knocked him out with a one-two punch. Jago ended up in the hospital. Lucious came to visit him and when he noticed that Jago was high on drugs, he coerced Jago to draw up a contract to merge the companies.

Across town at Lyon Dynasty, Hakeem and Cookie continued to develop their Latina girl group, affectionately known as "the three amigas." But when one of the background singers threatened to take Laura's top spot, Hakeem once again came to her rescue. He linked her up with his ex-boo Serayah to give her tips on how to be a lead singer. And after an afternoon of singing to New York City strangers, another test Hakeem had her endure to build up her confidence, she was able to earn her spot back.

Meanwhile, Lucious wanted his son Andre to visit the deputy mayor, for whom he used to do sexual favors, to get their new artist Freda's gang injunction lifted. Andre visited the deputy mayor, but when she tried to revert to their old ways Andre didn't backslide or cheat on his wife. Instead, he threatened her with videos of their previous encounters to get the job done.

And viewers saw just how complicated Lucious' relationship was with his mother. In a flashback, we see her attempt to kill herself with a revolver. Although we're still not sure if she succeeded, we do know his mother eventually passed away as present-day Lucious now has the gun and used it to create a hit song with Freda.

"Empire" returns at Wednesday at 9 p.m. Eastern on Fox.
