GoGo squeeZ Recalls Applesauce and Other Products Due to Mold
Company started a voluntary recall this month.
— -- The GoGo squeeZ company announced this month they are voluntarily recalling applesauce and other snack products after mold was found.
The company announced the recall earlier this month and said that the mold formed due to a production issue. While some molds can be dangerous, the company clarified the mold found in the packets is a "common mold (like what can form on fruit)."
"We know mold is gross and unpleasant to look at or taste, and this is simply not the kind of experience we want you to have," company CEO Michel Larroche said on their website. "As a consequence, we took every step to fully understand and fix the problem."
The company clarified they had consulted with an independent lab, which found there are no known health effects of consuming the mold currently in the packages.
Numerous parents wrote on the GoGo squeeZ Facebook page asking for the company to switch to clear pouches, so that any mold or other defects would be visible. Bill Marler, a food safety lawyer, said that the focus should be on making sure to avoid any of the same production mistakes in the future.
"It’s obviously a production problem that is unpleasant and people should throw it away and get their money back, but there’s no known health impacts at all," he said.
All GoGo squeeZ products with a "Best By" date between 6/30/16 and 7/26/16 and that were produced in the U.S. are being recalled by the company. More information can be found here on the recall.
