Just days after former President Donald Trump was projected to have won the presidency, Trump's transition team operation has begun, with transition co-chairs confirming that he will be selecting personnel to serve under his leadership in the coming days.

Trump is also the projected winner in Arizona, a state the former president flipped after losing it to Joe Biden in 2020.

Trump's projected win in the vital swing state marks a sweep of the battleground states.

Let's check in on GOP women running for House

As I mentioned earlier, there are not a lot of races where Republicans are in a good position to elect new women to Congress. Let's check in on a few non-incumbents, now.

In North Carolina's 1st District, Buckhout is trailing the incumbent, Rep. Davis, 46% to 51% with 73% of the expected vote reporting.

In Alabama's 2nd District, Dobson is trailing Figures 45% to 55% with 52% of the expected vote reporting.

In New York's 18th District, Esposito trails Ryan 42% to 58% with 71% of the expected vote reporting.

Other Republican women who are projected to win their races are mostly incumbents, with the exception of two: Biggs in South Carolina's 3rd, and Fedorchak in North Dakota's at-large district, who were nominated to run for safe Republican seats.

ABC News projects Trump will win Kansas

Another call expected call for Trump -- ABC News now projects that Trump has won the state of Kansas, which last gave its Electoral College votes to a Democrat in 1964, when Lyndon Johnson was on the ballot.

Donald Trump is projected to carry Iowa

ABC News is projecting that Trump will hold Iowa’s six electoral votes. The state became a topic of conversation over the last few days as the well-regarded pollster Selzer & Co. released a poll conducted on behalf of the Des Moines Register and Mediacom showing Harris ahead by 3 percentage points in the Hawkeye State, a surprising result for a state Trump won by 9 points in 2016 and 8 points in 2020. While Selzer has been known to publish outliers in the past that turned out to be more prescient than expected, it appears that this was not one of those times: Trump is ahead of Harris by 12 points in Iowa with 54% of the expected vote reporting.

Some Philadelphia math

The AP currently has Harris leading with about 307,000 votes here in Philadelphia to Trump's 83,000 -- with about 56% of the expected vote in. With an estimated 306,000 expected vote remaining to be counted, that works out to an expected turnout of around 613,000 votes for either Harris or Trump. But in 2020, Joe Biden won 604,000 votes here to Trump's 133,000, for a total of around 737,000.

So Harris may be able to make up the deficits that Geoffrey wrote about earlier in places like Lackawanna (Scranton) if she can get more votes out of Philadelphia than Biden did. Given that the intensity of Democratic Get-Out-The-Vote operations here, especially relative to the COVID-19 election of 2020, that is certainly possible.
