— -- International superstar DJ Calvin Harris is opening up about his split from Taylor swift and the Twitter barrage he fired her way weeks later.

Following the news that she co-wrote one of his songs, Harris, who split from Swift in June, fired a series of Tweets praising Swift for her song writing skills, but then firing back at her. He said she was trying to "make me look bad" by allegedly releasing information about his music.

Harris now regrets those July tweets, he told British GQ. "It's very difficult when something I consider so personal plays out very publicly. The aftermath of the relationship was way more heavily publicised than the relationship itself."

In fact, Harris told the magazine that the duo were "very careful for it not to be a media circus. She respected my feelings in that sense. I'm not good at being a celebrity."

"But when it ended, all hell broke loose. Now I see that Twitter thing as a result of me succumbing to pressure. It took me a minute to realise that none of that matters. I'm a positive guy," he added.

In July, Harris' tweets ranged from "I figure if you're happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do" about the split to name-dropping one of Swift's alleged enemies.

"I know you're off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy [Perry] ETC but I'm not that guy, sorry. I won't allow it," he wrote a few weeks back.

In this latest interview, Harris understands why the duo split after a year of dating.

"For both of us it was the wrong situation. It clearly wasn't right, so it ended," he told British GQ.

Swift was dating actor Tom Hiddleston, but recent reports have the two split after a few months together. A representative for the singer has not returned ABC News' request for comment.
