How to Capture Amal Clooney’s Style In Your Own Closet

“She’s our princess,” said Yahoo Style contributing editor Nick Axelrod, who appeared on “Good Morning America” to tell viewers how they can capture some of the human rights attorney’s style in their own wardrobes.

“She’s the closest we have to royalty in America and she’s Lebanese-British,” he added. “She’s classic, she’s beautiful, she dresses perfectly for every occasion, too.”Whether she’s glamorous on the red carpet or wearing casual jeans around town, Clooney always turns heads for her choices.

Axelrod appeared on “GMA” as part of the Yahoo Your Day collaboration to detail three looks that Clooney has worn in New York City.

Patterned Pants

Clooney pulls of the look by pairing the glam pants with a black top.

“If you’re going to do a crazy pant, keep it simple on the top,” Axelrod explained. “Black on the top, party on the bottom, it’s like a mullet thing going on. You could do it definitely to work and then add a necklace for going out.”

Ripped Jeans

Clooney wore ripped jeans and a leather jacket on a recent visit to her husband, George, on his movie set.

“I like it because it’s ripped jeans but it’s not a full Backstreet Boys ripped jean,” Axelrod said. “It’s a sophisticated take on it and you can DIY it, too. Just grab a razor and an old pair of jeans, nothing you like too much, and just take some slits to the side, to the thigh, and just let them fray. Don’t go too crazy.”

You can dress up the rest of the outfit by wearing heels -- and maybe a faux leather jacket. It adds city edge without taking a huge chunk out of your pocketbook.

“The pump elevates it a bit and makes it something you could actually wear to dinner for date night,” he added.

Culottes

Culottes can be intimidating because they seem dramatic and oversized, but they’re actually flattering on many shapes and heights.

“Don’t be afraid of the culotte, that’s my big message,” he said. “We can embrace the culotte. It’s a crazy pant on the rack but when you wear it, it’s so flattering. It’s actually lengthening her legs. With the heel, it can really completely do that effect.”

The billowy style has a lengthening effect when the hem hits the just above the calf or top of the ankle, and they’re paired with a simple, pointed-toe heel, it gives the illusion of longer legs. Culottes can also be paired with a low-top sneaker for a more casual look, but be sure to keep the top simple and fitted, because the pants will be the statement piece in the ensemble, he explained.
