Grammy Eligibility Has Ended; Beyonce, Sam Smith Should Receive Nominations

— -- When Taylor Swift's new album, "1989," comes out on Oct. 27, it may set the charts, and the cash registers, on fire, but it won't be receiving a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year.

That's because the cutoff for eligibility for the 57th Annual Grammy Awards was Tuesday, Sept. 30. So any music that was released between Oct. 1, 2013 and Tuesday can be nominated, but Swift will miss out.

So, who are the most likely candidates for Grammy love? Billboard has a roundup.

In the Album of the Year category, Billboard says Beyonce's self-titled surprise album has a good shot, while other possible contenders might include Ed Sheeran's "X," Ariana Grande's "My Everything," Sam Smith's "In the Lonely Hour," Katy Perry's "PRISM" and Pharrell Williams' "G I R L."

For Record of the Year, Billboard says Idina Menzel's "Frozen" anthem, "Let It Go," Pharrell's "Happy," Taylor's "Shake It Off," Sam Smith's "Stay with Me," Beyonce's "Drunk in Love" and Coldplay's "A Sky Full of Stars" might make the cut.

For Song of the Year, which is a songwriting award, "Stay with Me" is a contender, as is "Sing" by Ed Sheeran, "All of Me" by John Legend, Sia's "Chandelier," Beyonce's "Drunk in Love" and, possibly, Iggy Azalea's "Fancy."

Sam Smith is a no-brainer when it comes to a Best New Artist nod, according to Billboard, and Iggy Azalea might also make the cut.

U2's free iTunes album, "Songs of Innocence," has been ruled eligible for nominations, but the publication doesn't think the academy will show the band much love.

The 57th Annual Grammy Awards will be handed out Feb. 8. Nominations are usually announced in December.
