Madonna and Guy Richie Fail to Reach Custody Deal in Court
Their 15-year-old son Rocco will remain in London with his father.
— -- Madonna and ex-husband Guy Ritchie will continue to battle for the custody of their son Rocco after they failed to reach an agreement in court today.
Both the singer, 57, and the director, 47, who divorced in 2008, called into court in an attempt to resolve a custody dispute involving their 15-year-old son. The two are separately overseas and could not attend in person.
The two sides told New York State Supreme Court Judge Deborah Kaplan they had reached a settlement as of Tuesday that fell apart at the last minute. The judge implored the sides to try again.
Rocco has been in London with his father since December, according to People magazine. That's where he is enrolled at school and will remain until a deal is reached.
The court-appointed attorney that represents Rocco said she is upset she has to tell him there is no agreement between his parents, and said the teen is stressed over the dispute.
Judge Kaplan had ordered Rocco to return to New York to live with Madonna after he left her tour to live with Ritchie in London. Madonna had hoped the judge would enforce the order but she indicated she was unwilling to issue a warrant.
The next scheduled court date is June 1.
