Mariah Carey Says Engagement Ring Is So Heavy She Can't Lift Her Arm
The singer, who is engaged to James Packer, says her ring is "so heavy."
— -- When Mariah Carey's fiance, Australian billionaire James Packer, dropped down to one knee last week and asked the singer to marry him, he pulled out a 35-carat diamond ring.
Carey, 45, said when Packer, 48, asked her to marry him in New York City, the proposal was "very romantic." The singer also revealed how she felt about her new bling.
"It's so heavy I can't lift my arm up," Carey quipped to E! News. "It's a nice chunk."
Although the two just got engaged, Carey has already started wedding planning. In fact, she's already thinking about a date.
"If everything works out, it will be somewhat soon," she hinted. "I don't mean if everything works out in that way, I mean there's a lot that goes into it."
"But, we are not doing a big wedding because he did two big weddings, and it's kind of like, I've done a big wedding [too] ... We would rather make it beautiful but humble."
Carey has even thought about the dress.
"I am very excited about the dress, but I don't want to talk about it yet as I have to have my first fitting," she said.
The bride-to-be couldn't help but gush about Packer, calling him "the guy people go to even if they are barely friends with him, and they look to him to get them through any situation. He's one of those people that just always is there for people, and I think that is a quality that I haven't seen -- except in myself."
Carey added that Packer is "a good-hearted person. He's young at heart, but also serious and I mean that in the best way."
This will be the third marriage for both Carey and Packer. Carey has two children from her second marriage with Nick Cannon, 4-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan, while Packer has three children from a previous relationship as well: Indigo Packer, 7; Jackson Packer, 5; and, Emmanuelle Packer, 3.
