May 1 -- Aaron Sorkin, the executive producer of NBC's The West Wing, has been charged with possession of cocaine base, hallucinogenic mushrooms, and marijuana, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said today.

Sorkin, 39, is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday. The Emmy-winning exec has been free on $10,000 bail since shortly after his April 15 arrest at the Burbank, Calif., airport, where authorities allegedly discovered hallucinogenic mushrooms in his luggage.

But Sorkin's case took a twist when chemical tests of his confiscated luggage uncovered two small pieces of rock cocaine, according to officials. The charges for the mushrooms (which can be charged as a felony or a misdemeanor) and the cocaine were upped to a felony. Sorkin has also been charged with one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana.

In addition, prosecutors now want Sorkin's bail increased to $20,000.

Sorkin was attempting to board a plane bound for Las Vegas when he was arrested, according to various media outlets. He previously admitted to a cocaine addiction in 1999 and received detox treatment at the same clinic actor Matthew Perry checked into for an addiction to painkillers.

Sorkin's rep issued a brief statement shortly after the producer's arrest. "I am glad to be surrounded by such a supportive group of people and am prepared to proceed as directed by my attorney and in the best interest of my family," Sorkin said.
