Elliot Page talks past struggles with dysphoria, finding 'joy' in his body
"I never thought I could experience this, the joy I feel in my body," Page said.
Elliot Page is reflecting on the "joy" he's feeling these days and celebrating how far he's come.
The Oscar-nominated actor, who came out as transgender in December 2020, took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a shirtless selfie and opened up about past feelings of "dysphoria."
"Dysphoria used to be especially rife in the summer," he recalled. "No layers, just a T-shirt - or layers and oh so sweaty - constantly looking down, readjusting my oversized T."
Page continued, "It feels so f'ing good soaking in the sun now, I never thought I could experience this, the joy I feel in my body. I am so grateful for what gender affirming care has allowed me and I look forward to sharing more of my journey soon."
He concluded the post with a hashtag for "#transjoy."
Two years ago, in May 2021, Page shared a shirtless photo to Instagram and celebrated him having gotten his first pair of swim trunks.
"The act of writing, reading, and sharing the multitude of our experiences is an important step in standing up to those who wish to silence and harm us," Page wrote on Instagram when revealing the book's cover, which shows him posing in a white tank top and jeans.
He continued, "Books have helped me, saved me even, so I hope this can help someone feel less alone."
