Luke Bryan on telling painful stories of loss in 'My Dirt Road Diary' docuseries
Bryan has dealt with tragedy in his family more than once.
Luke Bryan is not shying away from the tougher parts of his past in his upcoming new docuseries, "Luke Bryan: My Dirt Road Diary."
In the project, the country singer is expected to offer candid reflections on some of his family’s darkest days, including when tragedy struck the Bryan household.
Bryan lost his older brother, Chris, in a car accident in 1996. His older sister, Kelly, died suddenly in 2007, and her husband Lee died of a heart attack in 2014, leaving the couple’s three children parentless.
The singer and his wife Caroline Bryan ultimately stepped in to help raise the kids.
"I think telling this story with this much detail really helps people learn about me and learn about people that go through very, very tragic things," Bryan recently told Entertainment Tonight.
By sharing this side of his story, the country singer said he hopes to provide some hope for viewers who might be going through similar painful experiences.
"When [people] walk up to me on the street and they’re like, ‘Hey, man, you really inspire us,’ that’s what it’s all about to me," the singer said. "I always believe there’s a lot of people out there going through similar scenarios as me. If we can inspire them and help them dust themselves off, that’s what this thing is really about."
Bryan added that he hopes "My Dirt Road Diary" will paint a clearer picture of the good and not-so-good times he’s experienced along the way to success.
"It’s been quite the story and quite the ride," Bryan told ET. "You gotta celebrate the ups and you gotta really try to work together to get through the downsides."
