A new trailer for "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes" has arrived.

"Good Morning America" exclusively debuted a first look at the new trailer for the highly anticipated prequel on Wednesday.

The dramatic new trailer opens with head gamemaker Dr. Volumnia Gaul (Viola Davis) asking a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth), "Mr. Snow, after everything you've seen out there in the world, what are the Hunger Games for?"

"The Hunger Games are to punish the districts," he answers.

"Game of Thrones" alum Peter Dinklage as Casca Highbottom, the creator of the Hunger Games, then advises him, "Your role is to turn these children into spectacles -- not survivors."

In the prequel, which takes place 64 years before the trilogy that starred Jennifer Lawrence as heroine Katniss Everdeen, Blyth becomes a mentor to Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), a tribute from District 12.

"After Lucy Gray's charm captivates the audience of Panem, Snow sees an opportunity to shift their fates," a synopsis for the film teases. "With everything he has worked for hanging in the balance, Snow unites with Lucy Gray to turn the odds in their favor. Battling his instincts for both good and evil, Snow sets out on a race against time to survive and reveal if he will ultimately become a songbird or a snake."

The first official trailer for the upcoming film arrived in April.

The film also stars Hunter Schafer, Josh Andrés Rivera and Jason Schwartzman. Francis Lawrence, who directed the last three films in the series, returns to direct "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes."

"The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes" arrives in theaters worldwide on Nov. 17.

To celebrate the release of the prequel, "The Hunger Games" will also return to theaters for a two-night engagement on Oct. 15 and Oct. 18.
