Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks' Christmas tradition they do every year

The countdown to Christmas is on, and there's no shortage of holiday cheer at Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brook's house.

Yearwood said Thanksgiving is a crazy time in their home, where they host tons of people in what they call a "misfit Thanksgiving," but Christmas is a little quieter for the couple -- celebrated only with very close family.

"I have family in Georgia, and we have family in Oklahoma -- so it's kind of a progressive Christmas where go to everybody and see everybody," Yearwood said. "It's a lot more quiet."

Before traveling, Yearwood and Brooks make sure they prioritize one important holiday tradition with their daughters, August, Allie and Taylor.

"The only thing we really do as a family that we have to do is ... we decorate the tree together," Yearwood said. "Now that they're grown and living in different places, we still make it that the tree doesn't get decorated until we're together. So, it might go up and be bare for a week or two until we can get everybody together, and we'll make sure to do that."

Yearwood said not just when they're celebrating the holidays together but for maintaining a successful relationship year-round, she and Brooks strive to make each other a "priority."

"You have to make it a conscious effort to make sure that you put each other first, and we do that, and sometimes it's not easy," Yearwood said. "We have to compromise, and that's really what it's about. We're friends at the end of the day, and we enjoy each other's company and like being together."

In addition to family, the Food Network host also has a Christmas tradition with friends that centers around Santa's favorite snack -- cookies.

"We have a Christmas cookie party where all my friends come over and bring their recipe for Christmas cookies or dessert that their whole family has made," Yearwood said.

Yearwood said they have "mixers going all over the kitchen" while tons of cookies are backed in her ovens. At the end of the party, everyone takes home a big plate full of everyone else's desserts.

"That's one of my favorite memories of Christmas -- just sharing those," she said.
