From Wakanda to Zamunda: Oscar winner Ruth E. Carter tapped as costume designer for 'Coming to America 2'

Fresh off her Oscar win for Best Costume Design for "Black Panther," Ruth E. Carter is now going to create the styles of yet another fictional African country.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Carter revealed she's officially signed on to dress the cast of the long-awaited sequel to Eddie Murphy's classic "Coming to America."

"GOOD MORNING MY NEIGHBORS! It’s official!" she wrote, captioning a series of photos including one of her posing with Murphy as she holds her Oscar and another with Arsenio Hall seemingly about to kiss her Oscar as she stands by his side.

"Preliminary fitting for 'Coming to America 2' with Prince Akeem, Semmi and Oscar," she adds.

The original movie starred Murphy as Akeem Joffer, prince of the fictional African nation of Zamunda. In an effort to find a wife, Akeem, along with his trusty assistant Semi, played by Hall, decide to travel to Queens, New York.

Murphy and Hall are expected to reprise their roles, with "black-ish" creator Kenya Barris rewriting a script from original "Coming to America" writers Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield.

"Hustle & Flow" director Craig Brewer has signed on to helm the project, which Murphy is also producing. The two recently worked together on the Netflix comedy "Dolemite Is My Name," which follows the story of real-life comedian Rudy Ray Moore.

Although official details of the film are still forthcoming, Sheffield told ABC's "Good Morning America" in June 2018 that the film will follow Akeem after he learns that he has a son and returns to America to meet him.

"Coming to America 2" is set to hit theaters Aug. 7, 2020.
