NYPD police officers discover they're not just partners -- they're also cousins

For police officers, partners can often feel like family. For two NYPD cops, it turns out, they actually are.
This week, Officer Tyler Barbour and Officer Harley Greco, who work as partners in the NYPD’s 19th Precinct, learned that blue blood runs in the family. The two cops are not just partners -- they’re also cousins. Their great-great-grandmothers were sisters. Barbour and Greco had served alongside each other for half a year before the discovery.
According to the NYPD, it all started in the comment section of one of the 19th Precinct’s Facebook posts. Officer Greco’s grandmother took a DNA test and connected with new relatives online earlier this year. While commenting on the post, she noticed that a newfound relative had also commented. They quickly realized they each had a family member on the same force and that the two cops had to be related too.
The 19th Precinct shared the story of the unexpected family tie on Twitter.
“They just took a DNA test, turns out they’re 100% --related!” the post wrote.
The discovery comes just in time for Thanksgiving, giving new meaning to the concept of a “big blue family.”
