Julie Andrews was born in Surrey, England, as Julia Elizabeth Wells on Oct. 1, 1935 to musical parents. She began singing on stage with her mother and stepfather at the age of 10 and made her solo professional debut in 1947. After an early career in theater, she made the leap to the movies in 1964 with Disney’s “Mary Poppins.”
