Police Officers Finish Pizza Delivery After Driver In Accident
— -- When Steve Huckins ordered dinner delivery, he certainly didn’t expect the police to show up at his door -- especially not with the food.
“My wife just ordered a pizza and it never showed up, so Pizza Hut called my wife and said their driver was in car accident, and that they’d deliver another one quickly,” Huckins told ABC News. “Right about when we were getting done eating, there was a knock on the door.”
To his surprise, Huckins opened the door to two police officers.
“The officers asked my wife, ‘Are you Ginger Huckins?” and she goes, ‘Yes,’ and he goes, ‘Well here’s your pizza,’” he said.
The police officers assured Huckins the driver was okay, and afraid no one would believe him, Huckins snapped a picture of Portland, Oregon police officers Michael Filbert and Royce Curtiss before they could get away.
“My wife and I were in shock and we were laughing about it,” he said. “I did it so the police could get recognition. I think the police all over the country get bad reps, and they really are good people.”
Sgt. Peter Simpson, Portland Police Bureau’s spokesperson, agreed with Huckins.
“The Bureau believes it’s very important for officers to invest time in having positive interactions with the community,” he told ABC News in an email. “In this instance, taking a few minutes to deliver someone their dinner is a perfect example of what kind of officers we want in Portland – officers who care about those they serve.”
