Curious Sloth ‘Takes’ a Selfie In a Tree
The sloth was caught on camera by a GoPro propped in a tree in Nicaragua.
— -- A sloth spotted in the wilds of Nicaragua by an American tourist was just trying to take a nap, but first, it had to take a selfie.
That is what appears to happen, at least, in footage posted to YouTube on Monday by the tourist, Noah Aron.
Aron, of Sausalito, California, was in an "off the beaten path" area near the Mombacho volcano earlier this month when he came upon the sloth alone in a tree.
Aron says he climbed the tree enough to prop up his GoPro camera and then left the sloth alone to explore it.
"I think he was having an afternoon nap so I think I disturbed him but he didn’t seem to mind it," Aron told ABC News of the sloth. "He paid attention to the camera for about two minutes and then he kind of ignored it."
"I think he realized, 'This isn't going to bite me so I can ignore it,'" Aron said.
