— -- Two children from Breezy Point, New York, are getting more than they bargained for with one of their recent birthday gifts.

As 6-year-old Cassidy Reilly opened up a new Play-Doh box after her party, she noticed something odd in the bottom of the sealed packaging: a wedding band.

“Both of my kids have birthdays in April,” Cassidy’s mother, Shannon Reilly, told ABC News. “I do a combined birthday party, and we went back to the house and were opening the presents. My son is younger and they both like the same toys, so they share all the toys.

“She was opening up the box and taking out the tower in the box, and she pulled it out of the bottom of the box and said, ‘Grandma, what is it this?’ She said, ‘It looks like a wedding band.’”

Sure enough, the simple, silver wedding band was bizarrely loose inside.

“We knew it had to be one of two things,” Reilly said. “We assumed it was the person who packed it up at the factory, or someone had maybe purchased the gift had maybe returned it. No matter what, though, my mother was on a mission to find who owned this ring.”

Reilly’s mom, Pat, took it upon herself to contact Hasbro, the maker of Play-Doh, to alert them of her family’s interesting discovery to see whether they could help track down the possible owner.

“They said, ‘Ok, we’re going to mail you out an envelope and you can send it back to us,’ and she said, ‘How do I know it won’t just sit in someone’s office?” Reilly recalled of her mother’s initial conversation back in April. “She didn’t want to do that.”

Now more than a month has passed with no major updates from the company on any of their employees claiming the wedding band.

“They said, ‘We had a couple calls but they weren’t genuine,” Reilly said. “We were concerned because a lot of the packing is done in Asia. They called who does the packing and shipping in Asia and that’s where it’s been left off.”

The family is not giving up hope, however.

“It’s a simple ring. It isn’t a diamond or anything but it obviously means something to somebody,” Reilly said. “If we can find the owner, then that would be great.

“It would be so nice to have a nice little ending to this story,” she added.
