— -- Kalani and Jarani, the biracial twins who gained worldwide attention for having different skin tones, have reached their first birthday milestone.

The girls celebrated their April 23 birthday a day early with a princess-themed party that included 50 family members and friends.

"Everyone passed them around and loved on them," mom Whitney Meyer of Quincy, Illinois told ABC News. "They were so exhausted that they fell asleep at 6 p.m."

Kalani was born with light skin and blue eyes, while her sister Jarani, who's five minutes younger, has browner skin and brown eyes.

"They're my miracle girls," Meyer told ABC News Jan. 25. "It has nothing to do with their color. I lost a child and a year-and-a-half later, I gained twins. I just wanted to share it and it's been crazy ever since."

Dad Tomas Dean said having a daughter with blue eyes and a lighter complexion caught him by surprise.

"Never in a million years would I [have] imagined," he said.

Today, both girls are getting their teeth and say "mama" and "dada." Jarani is crawling and Kalani is almost walking, Meyer said.

"If you give Jay a banana, she'd rather have that than bounce a ball," Meyer addded. "Kalani would rather bounce a ball with her dad than have a banana. Their personalities are so different."

Their birthday party was complete with a royal princess photo booth, a pinata and a special cake with toppers that resembled the twins.
