— -- San Francisco has long been considered one of the most pet-friendly cities in the U.S., with the number of households containing dogs outnumbering those with children.

But a lesser known fact is that many of the pooches in that fog-drenched domain are named after spirits, beer and vino.

According to a recent survey conducted by Rover.com, a dog kennel alternative that helps pet owners find local sitters online, there are a lot of wine-y dogs on the West Coast.

While the top three dog names overall include Bella, Lucy and Lola, the cities' denizens were also most likely to name dogs Pinot, Bordeaux and Malbec instead of Fido, according to the findings.

And with 177 dog-friendly restaurants operating in San Francisco, that means there are plenty of outposts where pet owners can enjoy a glass of Pinot while "Pinot" curls up at their feet.
