Gonell told ABC News a year after the insurrection that he was reminded of the attack on the U.S. Capitol every day.

"From the way I sleep, eating breakfast, making sure I don't hurt myself putting my shirt on. The way I walk, the way I play with my son. The phone calls from the Justice Department, from the FBI, from the department, asking 'do I recognize this individual?'... It hasn't been easy," Gonell told ABC News' "World News Tonight" anchor David Muir in an interview that aired in January 2022.

    Jan. 6 in spotlight

Republican Geoff Duncan made reference to the aftermath of the 2020 election in his remarks, noting that his path to the DNC podium began when Trump tried to overturn his election loss to President Biden in Georgia.

A video is now airing of Trump's remarks on Jan. 6 at his speech at the Ellipse, as well as footage of rioters breaching the Capitol.

Coming on stage soon is Rep. Bennie Thompson, the chairman of the House Jan. 6 Committee, which after a yearlong investigation recommended the Justice Department bring criminal charges against Trump over the Capitol attack.
