DNC 2024 Day 3 live updates: Walz tells Democrats to 'leave it on the field'

Walz introduced himself to the country and touted his accomplishments.

The third night of the Democratic National Convention continued the themes of joy and freedom.

A who's who of speakers, including a surprise speech from Oprah Winfrey, headlined the night aimed to showcase vice presidential nominee Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

"Coach Walz" brought his energy to the crowd touting his and Vice President Kamala Harris' vision for the future of the country.

    Walz walks out to 'Small Town' to accept nomination

    Walz, who was picked by the Harris campaign in part because of his Midwest bonafides, walked onstage to John Mellencamp's "Small Town."

    He immediately thanked Harris for inviting him to be part of this campaign.

    Former students who played football under Gov. Tim Walz got the crowd on their feet without scoring a touchdown.

    John Legend performs as DNC stretches past prime time for 3rd night in a row

    Wednesday's lineup at the DNC stretched passed the 11 p.m. mark in the East Coast with a performance by John Legend and Sheila E.

    The pair performed a tribute to Prince, a Minnesota legend.

    For the third night in a row, scheduled speakers and musicians went past 11 p.m., resulting in Wednesday's headline speaker, Gov. Tim Walz, speaking closer to midnight.

    'MVP and coach' heard at DNC

    We've heard a few times in the United Center, which has seen some championships in its day, "MVP and Coach" -- as in "Madame Vice President" and "Coach Tim Walz."
