— -- Voters in the state of District of Columbia are heading to the polls on Election Day 2016.

There are three electoral votes at stake in District of Columbia in the presidential race. Early voting is allowed in District of Columbia.

The District of Columbia earned three electoral votes in general elections after passage of the 23rd Amendment in 1961. Residents of the nation’s capital have voted Democratic in general elections since 1964, never backing a Republican candidate. The nation’s capital has a large number of Democratic voters, nearly 75 percent, compared to 19 percent independent voters and over six percent of Republican voters.
