— -- Florida upset No. 1-ranked Florida State 4-1 after a benches-clearing fracas Tuesday night in Jacksonville.

It started when FSU's DJ Stewart ran into Florida pitcher Danny Young, who was trying to field Stewart's slow roller up the first-base line. Florida first baseman Zack Powers confronted Stewart before umpires separated them.

However, the benches and bullpens emptied, and players -- including FSU reliever and Heisman Trophy winner  Jameis Winston -- spilled onto the field. Police came onto the field to help umpires restore order, and one was photographed holding Winston and other players back.

"I didn't really know if Jameis was out there or not (at first), but they zeroed in on him and it looked like he was trying to break it up," FSU's Jarred Haggins said. "I was just hoping nobody really tried to do anything crazy like, 'Oh, there's the quarterback; let's go do something crazy.'

"As long as he didn't get hurt, I see he's out there being a leader trying to break it up."

It appeared to be nothing more than pushing and shoving, and the players returned to their benches. Stewart, Young and Powers were ejected. Florida's Justin Shafer was later ejected in a separate incident.

"It's very hard for me to comment on," FSU coach Mike Martin said, according to FloridaState.247sports.com. "I will just wait until the verdict is in regarding D.J.'s status."

Florida (16-9) took the teams' regular-season series with the win. The Gators also beat Florida State (19-5) 3-1 last week in Gainesville. The teams also meet April 8 in Tallahassee.
