Kellen Moore takes over at QB for Cowboys

— -- ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys have moved to their fourth quarterback of the season with Kellen Moore replacing Matt Cassel in the second quarter of Saturday's game against the New York Jets.

Cassel lasted four series against the Jets. He completed three of eight passes for 38 yards and was intercepted by Darrelle Revis in the first quarter on the most ill-advised of plays.

Moore's first pass went for a 1-yard loss to Terrance Williams. His second pass was intercepted by Marcus Gilchrist and turned into a field goal by the Jets.

Cassel went 1-5 as the Cowboys' starter and had five touchdown passes and seven interceptions. The Cowboys did not score a touchdown in three of his full starts. He failed to throw a touchdown pass in his past three starts entering Saturday's game and completed a season-low 44 percent of his passes last week against the Green Bay Packers.

The Cowboys traded a fifth-round pick in 2017 to the Buffalo Bills for Cassel and the Bills' seventh-rounder in 2017 after Tony Romo suffered a broken collarbone in Week 2. Brandon Weeden started the next three games before being replaced by Cassel.

Moore took first-team snaps with the offense for the first time this week, which was an indication of how short a leash Cassel was on entering the game. Moore spent the first three years of his career with the Detroit Lions, working under Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan for the first two, but he did not throw a pass.

Moore went 50-3 in his career at Boise State with 14,667 passing yards and 142 touchdowns.

This is the first time the Cowboys have used four quarterbacks in the same season since 2001, when they had Quincy Carter, Anthony Wright, Ryan Leaf and Clint Stoerner.
