— -- Chicago Cubs left fielder Kyle Schwarber was carted off the field with an apparent leg injury Thursday night in Phoenix after colliding with center fielder Dexter Fowler as they chased a line drive from Jean Segura of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Fowler made contact with Schwarber's legs as the two chased Segura's drive to left-center in the second inning. The second-year player rolled around on the warning track before athletic trainers attended to him. He remained down for several more minutes before getting onto his feet with the assistance of the trainers and limping off to the cart, which took him away from the field.
There was no immediate word on his condition.
Segura raced around the basepaths and scored on the inside-the-park home run. It was his second home run of the game, and it gave Arizona a 4-2 lead.
Schwarber is one the heralded young stars for the World Series favorite Cubs. The fourth overall pick in the 2014 draft hit .246 with 16 home runs and 43 RBIs in just 69 games last year.
