Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton suffers right wrist contusion after HBP
— -- Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton?left his team's 7-6 loss Saturday after being hit on the right wrist with a pitch by Trevor Williams of the Pittsburgh Pirates.?
The Marlins said X-rays were negative, calling the injury a right wrist contusion.?
In the top of the first inning in Pittsburgh, Stanton took an inside fastball on a 2-2 pitch off the inside part of his wrist. He left in obvious pain, and? Ichiro Suzuki?replaced him in right field.?
"I'm just glad it's not broken," Stanton said, according to the Miami Herald. "I thought it was snapped."
Stanton is day-to-day.
"The fact that there's no fractures just means basically there's going to be some swelling,'' Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. "It's going to be sore. How long's that going to be? It could be a few days.''
Stanton has been on a tear of late, hitting .313 this month. His 16 home runs are one behind the National League lead.?
On Friday night, Stanton smashed a 449-foot home run over the batter's eye at PNC Park in the Marlins' 12-7 win over the Pirates.?
Stanton has battled injuries in the past.?He missed 87 games in 2015 with a fractured left wrist after getting hit by a pitch.?He also missed the last six weeks of 2016 with a groin strain.?
