— -- The Buffalo Sabres have acquired  Evander Kane as part of a blockbuster trade with the Winnipeg Jets.

The Jets traded Kane, defenseman Zach Bogosian and goaltending prospect Jason Kasdorf to the Sabres for defenseman Tyler Myers, winger Drew Stafford, a first-round draft pick and prospects Joel Armia and Brendan Lemieux.

The Sabres did not deal away their own first-round pick, which could be first overall. Buffalo also had the rights to the Blues' and Islanders' first-round picks, which both were acquired in trades last season.

A source told ESPN that Winnipeg will receive the latest of Buffalo's three picks, depending on where St. Louis and New York finish.

One condition of the trade is that Buffalo will retain half of the remaining salary of Stafford, who was scheduled to make $4 million this season in the final year of his contract, according to a source.

Kane was placed on season-ending injured reserve last week and is expected to miss four to six months after undergoing shoulder surgery.

The roster move followed a whirlwind of controversy surrounding Kane, who reportedly left the Jets and was unreachable in the hours leading up to a game because he was upset at an incident involving teammate Dustin Byfuglien.

The fourth overall pick in the 2009 draft, Kane has 10 goals and 22 points in 37 games this season.
