— -- Sacramento Kings guard Darren Collison will be suspended without pay for the first eight games of the NBA regular season after his recent guilty plea on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery, ESPN.com has learned.

League sources told ESPN.com on Sunday that Collison will be allowed to participate in Kings exhibition games and practices but must miss Sacramento's opening eight games after he received three years of informal probation and a 20-day jail sentence for a May incident involving his wife at his Sacramento-area home.

The suspension will cost Collison a total of $380,324 in lost salary.

Sacramento has known for some time that it would have to start the season without Collison, which prompted the Kings to sign Ty Lawson and bring fellow veteran point guard Jordan Farmar to training camp.

Collison will be eligible to play for the first time this season on Nov. 8, when Sacramento plays host to New Orleans.
