Tulsa hires new defensive assistant

— -- TULSA, Okla. -- Tulsa has hired the Buffalo defensive coordinator to be a new defensive assistant for the Golden Hurricane. Thurmond Moore replaces defensive backs coach Sammy Lawanson, who resigned last week, head coach Steve Kragthorpe announced Tuesday. Moore, 48, has not been assigned a specific coaching role, spokesman Don Tomkalski said. Moore spent the last three seasons as defensive coordinator at Buffalo. A Sacramento, Calif.-native, Moore has also coached the defensive line at Syracuse and served various positions with five other colleges and with teams in NFL Europe. He previously worked with Kragthorpe at Northern Arizona and North Texas.
