The Minnesota Twins placed shortstop Carlos Correa on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right oblique strain.

Correa suffered the injury in Friday night's 8-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers

Correa, 29, was seen grabbing at his right side during a third-inning at-bat. He eventually struck out and was removed from the lineup.

"It's like a gut punch," Twins outfielder Byron Buxton said after the game.

The banged-up Twins were already without infielder Royce Lewis, who was put on the injured list two weeks ago with strained quadriceps.

Correa, a two-time All-Star, is among the top players for the defending American League Central champions, who are hitting a major-league-low .184. He is batting .306 with one home run and four RBIs.

He missed Minnesota's final 11 games last year because of plantar fasciitis in his left foot and returned for the playoffs, hitting .409 (9-for-22) with four RBIs as the Twins beat the Toronto Blue Jays in the wild-card series and lost to the Houston Astros in the division series.
