— -- DALLAS -- Kevin Weiberg, the commissioner of the Big 12 Conference, was rewarded with a four-year contract extension Friday. The conference's commissioner since December 1998, Weiberg's contract was set to expire in June 2006. His new deal also has a four-year option that extends to 2014. "This was a unanimous decision of the Big 12 Conference Board of Directors," said David Schmidly, the board chairman and Oklahoma State president. "The board is extremely pleased with Kevin's leadership and the team he has assembled at the Big 12 office." In addition to his responsibilities within the Big 12, Weiberg also is in the first of a two-year terms as coordinator of the Bowl Championship Series. "I very much appreciate the support of our board and the opportunity to continue to serve our member institutions," Weiberg said. "We have outstanding people to work with at our universities and that is what makes this position so special."
