Review: Expanded Recording in Tivo HD

— -- TiVo HD ($299.99; additional monthly service fee) lets you watch your favorite shows and other television programming at your convenience. For the first time, the device lets you record 20 hours of high definition (HD) programming or up to 180 hours of standard definition (SD) content. Furthermore, the device lets you search for content, displays upcoming episodes, and presents you with the ability to record these shows.

Apart from your preferences, the device also searches for relevant shows and records them under a separate folder called "TiVo Recommendations." Surprisingly, many of these recommendations are fairly accurate. The TiVo also lets you access content from Amazon Unbox and Rhapsody.

TiVo HD also includes a feature called "Universal Swivel Search" that lets you search for and record content from multiple outlets -- cable and broadband. Other important features include the ability to record entire TV seasons; search for content based on an individual, category or keyword; the ability to play and pause live TV, and the capability to schedule your TiVo from anywhere in the world.
