— -- Verbatim today announced its new Solid State Drive, the ExpressCard SSD. Available in 16, 32, and 64GB capacities ($100, $150, and $300, respectively), the drive will ship at the end of February.

The drive can work with XP- and Vista-equipped PCs and OS X-equipped Macs, and ships with NTI Shadow IV for continuous backup.

The drive carries read speed up to 125MB per second, and write speeds up to 30MB per second. These speeds look like they will best the ExpressCard SSD Lexar offered a year and a half ago; that product sorely disappointed. We'll see how this one stacks up when it becomes available.

Verbatim also announced two new desktop-sized hard drives, both called the Quad-interface External Hard Drive. Available in the next month, the drives offer USB 2.0, FireWire 400, FireWire 800, and E-SATA interfaces, and will come in 500GB and 1TB capacities.
