— -- Crikey! Is that the alarm already?

Thousands of Australians were woken up one hour early after an apparent mobile phone glitch caused their smartphones to switch to Daylight Savings Time.

The error impacted certain users today in Queensland on the Optus and Virgin networks.

Both companies were quick to reach out to customers on social media and apologize for the glitch, which has since been fixed.

While the unexpected early risers lost an hour of shuteye, Optus customers were treated to a free coffee for showing their mobile device at a Brisbane coffee shop to help keep them caffeinated.

Local media reported there was an increased number of people on public transportation and some people were found waiting outside their workplaces before they had even opened for the day.
