Abducted Boy Report on Fourth of July Prompts Door-to-Door Search

July 5, 2013— -- Virginia police are conducting a door-to-door search and scouring the area with a helicopter searching for a 12-year-old boy who was last seen on the Fourth of July kicking and yelling for help as he was pulled into a blue van.

"We have a 24-hour emergency operation command center set up to deal strictly with this case," Capt. Jeff Pearce, the commander of the criminal investigations unit for the Spotyslvania County Sheriff's Office, told ABC News.

A boy wearing a red and white shirt and blue pants was riding his bike Thursday afternoon in a residential community in Spotsylvania when a man driving a sky blue construction van pulled onto the side of the road and forced him into the car, according to Pearce.

"We have a witness that called 911 after they saw a boy kicking and screaming for help and resisting a man who was trying to put him in a blue construction van," he said.

"We have several similar descriptions of that van as well as credible information to make us believe this is an abduction," Pearce continued.

Today police are combing Spotsylvania County and the surrounding area in a search that involves over 50 law enforcement agents.

"The FBI has sent us more than 20 agents, Virginia State Police have given us special agents, troops, as well as full use of their helicopters. We have 50-60 officials conducting ground and aerial searches," he said.

The officers are going door-to-door throughout the town and the helicopter is patroling Spotsylvania looking for the boy and the blue van.

The Virginia State Police have issued an endangered child alert that describes the alleged abductor as an unidentified white or Hispanic male. He was seen wearing a white tank top and dark pants, police said.

Spotsylvania police have yet to identify the boy, which is why an AMBER alert has not been released.

"We have not gotten any reports of a missing person and thus cannot rule out that this is simply a case of a parent trying to get their child into a car," Pearce explained.

Police are requesting that anybody with information about the boy contact them.

"Even if this is only a parental or custodial situation, whoever knows the boy needs give us a call. Until they do, we are erring on the side of caution and treating it as an abduction," Pearce said.
