— -- A 13-year-old boy says he helped save his older sister from a man who tried to pull her into his van in broad daylight in Chicago.

Diavonnie Ingram, 15, and her brother, Devonte, 13, told ABC station WLS in Chicago that they were walking in an alley in the Avondale neighborhood of Chicago when the apparent attempted kidnapping took place on Monday morning.

"She was already halfway into the van, like to the waist," Devonte told WLS. "I was right here, and I had to grab her legs and keep pulling as hard as I could."

"I was grabbing anything I could trying not to go in the van," Diavonnie told WLS.

Felicia Wings, their mother, told WLS her son was a "hero" and called the incident "really disturbing."

Wings could not be reached for comment by ABC News.

"My heart dropped. I mean, you know, these are my kids," Wings told WLS. "I see and read about this all the time, but for it to happen to me, I was just took back. I was flabbergasted. I couldn't believe it."

Diavonnie said the license plate was covered but they both had a look at the suspect.

"The male juvenile witness then grabbed the legs of the victim and began yelling," the alert added. "The male offender then picked up property belonging to the victim, entered the white van, and fled eastbound from the location."
