— -- A Colorado handyman said a “lot of stuff” went through his mind when he recently found $1,000 cash hidden behind a medicine cabinet in a client’s home.

"[Do] you keep it, you're the only one there?,” Ray Comeau told local ABC News affiliate KMGH of his immediate reaction.

According to Comeau, the money was a mixture $20, $50 and $100 bills all stored in one white envelope.

After the shock of finding the money faded, Comeau said he had no hesitation in deciding to return the money.

“You know the right thing to do, so I gave it to the new homeowners," Comeau told KMGH. “You wouldn’t sleep at night. I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.”

Comeau has owned his own handyman business since 1999, according to his website. He describes himself on his site as a 54-year-old father of two who can “look at something and know how to build it, fix it or make it.”

Despite his experience, Comeau said finding the cash was a first in his career.

"You think that someday you might find that time capsule, that hidden object, or something of value, an old coin, an old something. It never happens,” Comeau told KMGH.

Comeau, who could not be reached today by ABC News, was rewarded for his honesty. KMGH reported that the new homeowners returned the cash to the people they bought the home from but gave Comeau $100 as a thank you.
