— -- A student from Belgium says she'll never forget the kindness of a Santa Barbara woman who's helping her reunite with photos she lost almost a year ago when her GoPro fell in the Pacific Ocean.

Shannon Clark Batchev, of Santa Barbara, Calif., was snorkeling Friday afternoon when an object with a silver button caught her eye. About 10 feet down in the ocean was a GoPro, she told ABC News today.

When Batchev pulled it out of the water and plugged in the SD card, she found about 100 photos and videos, she said.

She knew she wanted to return the memories to their rightful owner, so she took to social media and the local news to get the word out.

"All I really wanted from this was to be able to get her back her videos and her photos," Batchev told ABC News. "I know what those photos mean to people...I've lost photos and videos and was devastated. I thought if there was any chance...to reconnect her with those memories...I can give her a lot of happiness from that."

It turns out, the GoPro's owner is Sabrina Cacciatore, an international student who lives in Belgium.

This morning, a friend told Cacciatore that a story about the mystery GoPro was on ABC affiliate KEYT-TV. Cacciatore said she immediately contacted Batchev via Facebook.

Cacciatore told ABC News she lost the GoPro last October during a kayak activity with her class. She said all of her friends tried to save the camera when it slipped into the water, but it fell too quickly.

Cacciatore said she's so happy Batchev publicized her story. "It's a crazy story and I couldn't imagine that I will regain all my pictures and videos that I made," Cacciatore told ABC News via email. Cacciatore said the GoPro also had pictures from her trips to Italy and Amsterdam.

Although the camera is broken, Batchev said Cacciatore wants to keep it as a souvenir, so she'll mail it to her along with the memory stick of photos and videos.

Cacciatore she said she'll never forget Batchev's thoughtfulness.

"There aren't a lot of people who are so generous and nice," Cacciatore told ABC News via email. "All my family and my friends are so surprised about that."
