The Chicago Zoological Society (CZS), which manages Brookfield Zoo, released photos of two female snow leopard cubs born on June 16. The cubs - each of whom weighs about 10 pounds - are bonding with their 4-year-old mother, Sarani, in a behind-the-scenes den. They will likely make their debut in mid-October.

Shedd Aquarium welcomes chick #23, a rockhopper penguin (Eudyptes chrysocome), hatched June 9, 2015 to parents Edward and Annie following penguin breeding season in March. The chick, to be named at a later date, weighed 57 grams at birth and came in at 200 grams at a recent weigh-in; full growth is expected after about two to three months.

Animal care staff at the San Diego Zoo have determined that their new hippopotamus calf is a girl after nearly two months of waiting. The calf, born March 23, 2015 has been named Devi. Due to the very protective nature of a hippo mom, the calf was often kept tucked into vegetation growing along the edge of the hippo pool. Her mother, Funani, would also place her body between the baby and the viewing area. While she hasn't been weighed, keepers estimate that Devi weights between 90 and 110 pounds. Funani weighs nearly 3,500 pounds.
